Maybe it's the new book in which the story's being published or maybe it's me having taken a little break from reading these DCRO stories, but this felt like a big improvement over recent Clock entries to me.

@Ice: you're very close to the truth. The book switch gives George Brunner two additional pages for his Clock stories, and he's always produced better stories when he can let it stretch out a bit. This is the best Clock story in a long time.

And the Clock's back to screwing with people: "You stole my watch? I got yours, too! Sucker!" It was kind of interesting to see what kind of job he could offer Pug; I had no idea he'd hire him as a crimefighting partner! Cool move; it'll be interesting to see how well he pans out. Hope you offer him health insurance and other such benefits, Brian. Guess what happens to people who learn the Clock's secret, including that one guy in this story!

3 stars, and another corrupt city official bites the big one.

This was really good for a Clock Story!
