This is, in my opinion, the first really cool "Batman!" cover. I have a feeling, there will be more.

Other big firsts too, with the first bat-arang, first bat-plane (or at least bat-flying contraption), and first Bruce Wayne love interest!

@Ice: I agree, this is one very sweet cover! And iconic in its own right.

The first major Batman story arc. We have a foe that seems to be a match for our protagonist. The mysterious Monk appears to have some powers that may prove difficult for Batman to counter, so there's a degree of danger and suspense here. This is an excellent start to the arc.

Some other notes....

- Moving up in the world: Hey Batman? Did you give that guy permission to leave the telephone pole before you left on that cruise?

- My future ex-girlfriends: Julie Madison, you have the honor of being the first in a long, long line of Bruce Wayne love interests.

- Boys and their toys: First Bat-Equipment debuts here. The trusty batarang, and he's already quite proficient at it. Plus, the Bat-Gyro aka Bat-Copter. Handy little vehicle for picking up the ladies!

4 stars. It's slow, but the myth is building bit by bit.

This is the first Batman issue that felt like Batman.

The setting being revealed as New York was quite surprising!

"Feed My Werewolves" is my Alice Cooper tribute band.

Gardner Fox brings us the good this time. He, Bill Finger and Jerry Siegel were probably the best writers not named Eisner at the time.

Three stars.

Never knew this was a Gardner Fox tale and it's a thing of beauty. Bat-gadgets galore, a giant ape and the promise of werewolves to come!
