  "Recent widespread Marijuana dope deaths"
What, did people get lung cancer?

Yeah, I don't think I want to try to speculate on this one. Without that first caption, this is actually a serviceable story, although another typical Speed Saunders case. Interesting now that this is two stories in the DC Golden Age Order that deal directly with marijuana. 2 stars

This is really a sign of the times this was written. It's rather comical to think of marijuana being the main product of a "dope ring" and to see people in the underworld selling it. The "recent widespread deaths" is surely subliminal propaganda to get kids to not do drugs. This story wouldn't be that bad if Guardineer or whoever actually wrote this kept the actual drug vague. Then I could have assumed it was heroin or cocaine and the stakes would have been higher, but hey, this was probably the attitude towards weed in 1939.

I laughed at the name 'Policy Pete.' I heard he got that name by acing his government studies class...
