Wow, pretty gruesome panel there; one guy's decapitated head impaled on a sword, and another guy looks like he's throwing up blood as he's stabbed in the chest. However, I had to laugh at Rodgers's tongue hanging out after attempting to drink Zatara under the table!

I don't know about this story otherwise. I wonder if Gordon had made arrangements with the Mongolian government to display that necklace already, because Gordon doesn't appear to own it, and retrieving it was more like stealing it and creating a potential international incident.

And the curse? Maybe it was. That storm was never really explained, nor did Zatara look for any supernatural causes of it if there was one. Overall, kind of a weak and disappointing story. It's just Zatara being his usual overpowered self.

2 stars. Hey Zatara, even if drinking an entire punchbowl of alcohol doesn't make you drunk, I doubt there's a spell powerful enough to keep you from peeing over the next two hours!

This might be the most disappointing story in the whole book. I still like it more than Scoop, but with Scoop, I have lowered expectations. I was looking forward to Zatara at the World's Fair but instead, the fair is only book-ending the story, giving the plot a frame for Zatara stealing a necklace.

The drinking on the ship and the Chinese bandits stabbing the "coolies" (whatever that means) are the highlights of the story. The low-light is definitely the racism, especially the yellow coloring of the skin of all the Asians. The one with the long mustache and the buck teeth is also particularly disturbing. Man, the '30s was such a different time...

So today I learned that the 1939 New York's World's Fair was a hotbed of crime that needed the work of some of DC's major heroes to clean it up.
