Wow. Did they have acid in 1939? Mr. Fox had to be tripping on something when he wrote this one! The image of the two queens kissing is not something I was expecting to see in a golden age comic. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

I love these far out early dimension hopping stories. This story, just like Slam Bradley's adventure in 2 billion AD, make me think about the future DC multiverse. Surely, none of the creators were thinking about anything as weird and mind-blowing as all that, but it's certainly a precursor.

You'd think Zatara, as an incredibly powerful magic user, wouldn't be so freaked out at seeing "the doorway into the fourth dimension".

A fun little escapade. The first foray by a hero into an alternate dimension? It boggles the mind that they had a few basics on this concept so early, even if a multiverse wasn't what anyone had in mind yet. @go2shaw: actually, yes. Hallucinogens have been around for centuries, and western science started to study them in earnest around the start of the 20th century!

3 stars. Yeah, I didn't expect to see such a kiss in a Golden Age comic either. They were pretty forward thinking back then, although I wonder what they really thought of it when this was first published.

Clever tricks for Zatara to end the war while not having to steal the necklace. I really enjoy these alternate dimension stories that become prevalent later on in comics history. This is a very good early incarnation of seeing the character inhabit another world!

The kiss between queens is out of left field for this time period. And I have to think the final line of Zatara's dialogue was intentional - "Someday I will have to go back to see how the new kingdom I formed is MAKING OUT!"
