This issue seems like it was a story written for Zatara rather then Slam Bradley. Unless it's explained why he became Zatara 2.0, I will have to rate this 1 star.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. It's like Siegel didn't realize he was supposed to be writing a Slam Bradley story!

Slam went from apparently pulling his friend out of a hat to invisibility and teleportation pretty quick too...

This sucked. I was expecting some kind of explanation or retcon, but nothing came.
If Siegel wants to write about a Magician he should write about Doc Occult or create a new one, not turn one of his other characters into one.
Being a magician suits Slam Bradley about as much as being a clown at a kid's birthday party would suit Batman.

This story came out of left field. Like Cinnamongreen13 and Ice above, I also had the thought that this seemed like a Zatara story.

It's like Super Mario Bros. 2. It's a completely different game, but with Mario sprites added to sell to the US market. This is a Zatara story with a Slam sprite shoehorned in for no apparent reason. I was waiting for a reason, but none could be found. Abysmal.

Well, it was a bit entertaining the way Bradley essentially gaslit Hanson, but this was so far out of character for Bradley it just doesn't work in his series. Maybe Jerry and Joe were trying something new, or working on a gimmick. Since Mandrake the Magician was quite popular at the time, it was natural that copycat characters like Zatara would spring up, and Jerry and Joe probably threw their hat in the ring with Bradley to see how well it went. Hopefully we don't see Slam do this again.

1 star.

Bananas. I liked it. Two highlights stuck out for me. The first is Shorty leaving because this story is too silly for him. The second is Slam giving up his magic practice because punching is better.

What the hell.. this was trash and way, WAY to long. I was liking the Slam issues prior to this one.

I'm not a fan of the magician heroes and this story brings Slam down to their level for me. Worst Slam Bradley story so far.

This was obviously a parody of the 'magical detective' type comics. Only problem is, there's nothing different from a straight 'magical detective' story.
